A Night in the Valley Raises More Than $1 Million to Support Patient Care at Valleywise Health
Valleywise Health Foundation’s annual fundraising gala honors Steve Purves’ legacy and supports the expansion of critical patient care services.
Phoenix, AZ — Valleywise Health Foundation raised an impressive $1,038,652 at its annual A Night in the Valley fundraising gala on Saturday, October 17, surpassing its fundraising goal and marking a major milestone in support of exceptional patient care at Valleywise Health.
Held at Creighton University Health Sciences Campus in Phoenix, the Roaring Twenties-themed celebration brought together community leaders, philanthropists, physicians and supporters for an unforgettable evening of generosity and purpose. Guests stepped back in time to the glamour of the 1920s, complete with live jazz, speakeasy-inspired cocktails, elegant dining and powerful stories highlighting the impact of Valleywise Health.
The evening paid special tribute to Steve Purves, who retired in October after 13 years as President and CEO of Valleywise Health and 45 years in healthcare administration. Under his leadership, the health system underwent a historic transformation, expanding access to care and strengthening its ability to serve patients and families across Arizona. The celebration also formally welcomed Michael White, MD, as the new President and CEO of Valleywise Health. Steve and Mary Anne Purves, along with Dr. White and his wife, Jolene, served as the evening’s honorary co-chairs.
“This was an extraordinary evening and an incredible demonstration of what our community can accomplish together,” said Lisa Hartsock, CEO of Valleywise Health Foundation. “To surpass our fundraising goal and raise more than $1 million is a testament to the generosity of our donors, sponsors and community partners. We are especially grateful to celebrate this milestone while honoring Steve’s remarkable legacy and helping build the future of care at Valleywise Health.”
Funds raised will support the completion of the new 10th-floor medical-surgical unit at Valleywise Health Medical Center, helping expand capacity and improve access to high-quality, compassionate care for patients and families throughout the community. The project is a meaningful tribute to Steve and Mary Anne Purves and their lasting commitment to Valleywise Health.
“Every day, our teams see firsthand how important access to exceptional care is for the patients and families who depend on Valleywise Health,” said Michael White, MD, President and CEO of Valleywise Health. “The generosity demonstrated at A Night in the Valley will help us serve more patients, strengthen our health system and continue building on the remarkable foundation established under Steve’s leadership.”
With additional gifts anticipated before the end of October, the event’s fundraising total is expected to grow.
Valleywise Health Foundation extends its sincere appreciation to the event’s host committee, generous sponsors, underwriters, donors, volunteers and community partners whose support helped make the evening an extraordinary success.
