Honoring Dr. Mary Connell
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dr. Mary Connell, a cherished physician, educator, and leader whose life and legacy left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Over the course of more than 35 years in practice, Dr. Connell served as a visionary leader in radiology, holding roles such as Chair and Vice Chair of Radiology at Maricopa Integrated Health System and DMG. She provided steady guidance during times of growth and transformation, shaping a culture of collaboration and academic excellence.
Dr. Connell also played a foundational role in radiology graduate medical education, serving as Program Director for the Maricopa Medical Center Radiology Residency and later as Associate Program Director of the Creighton Radiology Residency. Dr. Connell was instrumental in establishing the Diagnostic Radiology Residency at MIHS and was known for her exceptional mentorship and teaching, especially in pediatric radiology and ultrasound. In each of these positions, she shaped the careers of countless young physicians through her wisdom, compassion, and unwavering dedication.
As Radiology Clerkship Director and Clinical Associate Professor at both Creighton University and the University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix, Dr. Connell was a beloved educator and mentor, known for her generosity of spirit and her relentless commitment to excellence in teaching. Her contributions were recognized through honors such as Elective Director of the Year, testaments to the deep respect and affection she inspired in students and colleagues alike.
Beyond her many titles and accolades, she will be remembered for her warmth, humility, and the quiet strength with which she uplifted those around her. Her legacy endures in the innumerable lives she touched and in the spirit of compassion, curiosity, and service that she instilled in all who had the privilege of knowing her.
